  1. he Liberty Tree is the foremost progressive newspaper in Liberty City. Founded as a weekly roundup of current events and politics in of politics and literature on 13 April 1851, the Liberty Tree has notably recognized and published new writers and critics, as well as encouraged notable careers. Today, it is a vibrant print-digital hybrid, and one of the most respected and influential titles in the United States. The Liberty Tree is celebrated for its liberal and progressive politics, as well as the range, intelligence and quality of its writing and analysis. It is read across various platforms by decision makers from the full spectrum — academia, government, think-tanks, media and the arts. The mission of the Liberty Tree's critically-acclaimed writers is to analyze, report and explain the defining political and cultural events. Founded in 1851 by International Typographical Union delegates, the Liberty Tree grew in influence and circulation and establishes itself as a significant political and journalistic voice in the late 19th century with its coverage of the American Civil War and major dailies, thus becoming an official receiver of all war news from the government. In turn of the century, the Liberty Tree becomes essential reading across the political spectrum. Liberty Tree wins its first Pulitzer Prize for public service in publishing dozens of documents, official reports and speeches about World War I. During the Second World War circulation of the Liberty Tree increases from 24,000 to 70,000, despite paper rationing. Throughout the turbulent fifties and sixties, nuclear diplomacy is played out in the pages of the Liberty Tree and takes its highest weekly circulation at a vibrant time for the newspaper. The 1980s are a difficult decade for the Liberty Tree. Although resulting in a loss in circulation, the Liberty Tree survives its 130th anniversary, it also merges with the Liberty City Observer, a weekly title covering the social sciences and political affairs. During the mid-90s, philanthropist and businessman Christie Alexander acquires the Liberty Tree Company, saving The Liberty Tree from near-bankruptcy and appointing Irving Rosenbaum as editor. In 1998, libertytree.com goes live for the first time, establishing the paper’s virtual presence and paving way a new era for the newspaper. The Liberty Tree evidently evolved into a digital-print hybrid, becoming more politically skeptical and publishing long reads, narrative reports, essays and profiles. A new generation of political writers is found and consequently re-establishing its position as an influential cultural and political news print. By 2022, The Liberty Tree’s circulation reaches a 30-year high and its web traffic reaches new unparalleled heights. Once again, becoming required reading across the political spectrum while being celebrated for the independence, authority and quality of its ideas and journalism.
