Early Life

Matthew “Matty” Mangano was born December 13th, 1958 in Hove Beach, Broker. Matthew had an older brother, Ronald Mangano, who was four years older than Matthew. Matthew’s father, Ciro Mangano, was a blue-collar, hard working first generation Italian-American immigrant, who immigrated to America with his parents when he was just a young boy. Ciro raised Matthew and Ronald with the principal of treating others with respect and not cheating your way through life. Ciro would often ask Matthew and his brother to shovel snow from their old neighbor's driveway, because he was too old to do it himself. Matthew’s mother was a beautiful Italian woman, who everyone in the neighborhood liked. She was well-educated, but married young, and in return spent most of her life as a housewife.

Ronald and Matthew were complete opposites: Ronald was drawn to books and Matthew to toy guns. In High-school, Ronald thrived, getting strictly A’s, while Matthew struggled just to get a C. It wasn’t that Matthew was dumb, in fact, people described him as highly intelligent, it was the fact that Matthew simply couldn’t be bothered to keep his nose in the books.

Street Education

When Matthew was 19, he got himself a job at a local auto-shop in the neighborhood. Out of courtesy for his employer, Matthew showed up early to work. Matthew waited hours, before a garnet-colored, 1970 Cadillac Coupe DeVille pulled up in front of the shop. The door swung open, and out stepped a husky, grey haired man, kitted in a light-blue, patterned bowling shirt, a gold cartier watch and a small, gold pinky-ring. The man was Carmine Muscatelli, a respected member of the Lucchese Crime Family. Carmine sincerely smiled at Matthew and shook his hand with a firm grip. Within the first ten minutes of knowing Carmine, Matthew would have followed him through the gates of hell. Everyone loved Carmine Muscatelli.

Carmine took a liking to Matthew and vice versa. Carmine taught Matthew everything there was to know about life. How to attract females, how to negotiate, and most important of all, how to play on the street. With time, Carmine slowly started delegating tasks and jobs to Matthew. For once in his life, Matthew felt important, being the “bodyguard” of a well-respected Lucchese button. Matthew wasn’t shy of confrontation, and he was eager to show that. Matthew started handling Carmine’s collections. Carmine gave Matthew the nickname “Caterpillar Matty” due to his caterpillar-like eyebrows. Inside Carmine Muscatelli's crew, Matthew met Gianluca "Gigi Sans" Sansalone. Sr, who at the time wasn't a senior.

Gigi Sr. and Matthew met each other in the early 80s. Gigi Sr. worked for Carmine Muscatelli, just as Matthew Mangano did. Gigi, who was a few years older than Matthew, took a liking to him instantly. The two men grew extremely close over the years, forming a brother-like bond

When Gigi Sr. had his first child, Gianluca Sansalone Jr. Matthew loved and treated him as a nephew. To Little Gigi, Matthew was referred to as "Uncle Matty" or "Uncle Eyebrows".

Little Gigi basically grew up around Matthew.  Matthew was constantly at their house for Sunday dinners and backyard barbecues.

Though Matthew had a foot in the Lucchese camp, he also hung around a different set of guys. A popular hang-out spot for low-time crooks and criminals in the 80s was Al's Pizzeria, a pizzeria located in Beechwood City. Matthew quickly made friends with the young and like-minded individuals, who would waste dozens of hours a week, hanging out around Al's Pizzeria.

The Beechwood Bunch

This set of criminals were dubbed "The Beechwood Bunch" and Matthew fell right in with the crowd. Since he wasn't officially on record with Carmine, he increasingly got more and more involved with the crew of thugs. During this time, Matthew made many friends; one of which, Saverio "Sammy Bridges" Urzi, a newly immigrated Italian from Sicily. Matthew and Saverio instantly hit it off, and as a result of that, Matthew was quickly considered an official member of "The Beechwood Bunch".

Matthew's run with "The Beechwood Bunch" lasted longer than expected. Matthew was juggling two balls- on one hand Matthew was being schooled by a reputed Lucchese wise-guy and on the other, he mingled and socialized with degenerate criminals his age. In 1986, when Carmine finally caught wind of Matthew's involvement with "The Beechwood Bunch", he instantly put Matthew on record with him, officially transferring him to the Lucchese family. Matthew was part of "The Beechwood Bunch" from 1983 to 1986.

In 1987, Matthew married his longtime girlfriend, Lorraine. In 1988 Lorraine gave birth to their first child, Anthony. Five years later, she gave birth to a girl, Maggie.

Inducted Into A Life Of Treachery and Betrayel

Matthew ran with Carmine for years, and when Carmine made captain, Matthew was first in line to getting made. December 10th, 1995, 3 days before his birthday, Matthew “Caterpillar Matty” Mangano was inducted into the Lucchese crime family. Up until his induction, Matty was far from a big earner; he was a loyal dog, who stood beside Carmine for over 10 years before getting his button.

In 2004, Matthew ran an investment firm in Lower Manhattan named TTF Investments. TTF operated under the Lucchese flag, and for the first time ever, Matthew was raking in serious money. TTF Investments generated 30 million dollars through stock fraud, until the FBI shut it down in 2006. Daniel Lucala (a young man on record with Matthew) testified against Matthew, not only mentioning the stock fraud, but also other lucrative businesses Matthew was involved in. Matthew was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Life Behind Bars

In 2011, inside USP Leavenworth, Matthew met Richard “Richie Two-Step” Caporaso, a rising star in the Lucchese family. Mangano and Caporaso were familiar with each other, but it was while both serving their sentences that they grew close. Mangano took a liking to Caporaso and vice versa. Caporaso was released from prison in 2019, while Matthew still had two years left to serve. From behind bars, Matthew witnessed his friend rise through the ranks, eventually landing a captain’s position. In 2013, Matthew’s beloved wife, Lorraine, passed away from skin cancer, leaving their two children without parents near at hand.

In 2019 while Matthew was still locked up, his daughter Maggie married 39 year-old Lucchese soldier, David LaScala. Matthew knew Theodore from before he was sent to prison, and he couldn’t have been more pleased with his new son-in-law. David and Matthew bonded, even when Maggie and David visited Matthew in prison, it was clear that Matthew saw David as his second son. Matthew was finally released from prison in 2021.

Modern Day

When Matthew was finally released from prison in 2021, the Muscatelli crew which Matthew had been part of for years, had dissolved following Carmine Muscatelli's 2010 indictment. Bohan captain, Richard "Richie Two-Step" Caporaso, didn't hesitate to offer the washed-up, aging wise-guy, Matthew Mangano, a seat in his crew. Matthew gladly accepted the offer, since both his son-in-law and Gianluca "Little Gigi" Sansalone Jr. were members of this Bohan-based crew.

On September 21st, 2021, shortly after joining up with the Caporaso crew and shortly after Matthew's release from jail, Matthew got in a terrible car crash with Gigi Sr. resulting in Gigi Sr. being completely paralyzed from head to toe. The crash was due to Matthew's reckless driving. Gigi Jr. was completely devastated. In a sense, he holds Matthew accountable for the vegetable-state of his father.

Today, Matthew is regularly seen around Theodore "Teddy Hill" LaScala and Gianluca "Little Gigi" Sansalone Jr., both of which are soldiers with the Lucchese crime family.
