Politics > September 2nd, 2022 "Beachgate" is a crazy debunked conspiracy theory made up by far right supporters By Roger Sand @rogersand Fact check: FALSE (Fact-checked by an independent commission) A new conspiracy surfing through the internet known as "Beachgate" has now made it to mainstream media. This debunked conspiracy alleges that Mayor Lockhart is working with organized crime to silently take care of his opposition. Supporters of this conspiracy theory claim that the recent deaths of Republicans Jonathan Cunning and Eric Chen prove that there is an underground criminal network tied with the government, responsible for public corruption, human trafficking and other illegal activities. The term "Beachgate" surfaced following the discovery of Jonathan Cunning's body close to the Beachgate neighborhood. Conspiracy theorists believe that Chief of Department Brian Turner is secretly trying to destroy this criminal network due to his previous statements regarding the rise of organized crime in Liberty City and the recent investigation into his history of corruption within the Liberty City Police Department, which supporters of this theory claim is a hoax and a witch-hunt. Chief of Department Turner has also expressed concerns regarding the investigation and has openly used his public office position to make political statements and target Mayor Lockhart. Mayor Lockhart comments: I believe it's a smear by my opponents that are upset that I actually work for the betterment of the citizens of our fine city to detract from their failed proposals, unstable leadership, and ineffective policy. Political Analyst Ron Hawkins comments: The rise of conspiracy theories like Beachgate and Qanon are a direct result of the failed education policy by our government.
