  1. Liberty Republican State Committee I. Overview The Liberty Republican State Committee is the affiliate of the Republican Party in the U.S. state of Liberty. Its headquarters is located in Algonquin. Over the years, Liberty Republicans have fought to stop the tide of outmigration and end Liberty’s status as the highest taxed, least business friendly state in the nation. From fighting to reduce the bureaucracy of government, cutting taxes and regulations on business, and promotion of a generally socially conservative stance on policy for the betterment of the cities residents. They believe in the rule of law, patriotism, and common American Exceptionalism. The Liberty Republicans being modelled on the New York Republicans are going to begin as one of the underdog forces in our roleplay community from day one, but that may not always be the case. Liberty's government history following the real-life trends of New York City up to a certain point would certainly give the population a highly democratic bend, but depending upon IC events and policies this dominance on power may either continue to dominate or falter in favor of the Republican Party. And it will be up to the chairperson of the party to guide it through electoral victories or defeats. II. Chairperson Requirements Ability to work in a team. Knowledge and understanding of the Republican Party in the United States, along with appropriate knowledge of Liberty City lore as a whole. Knowledge of the political process in the United States on the local, state, and federal level. Or a strong willingness to learn. Ability to independently manage party affairs, without significant oversight from a higher body. Strong leadership skills in mainly the OOC realm, ensuring that all appropriate work is done in a timely fashion. III. Letter of Interest To apply for the position, please send a letter of interest to @Brett detailing your qualifications, experience, knowledge, and any relevant information you believe is pertinent to your selection as the chairperson. Additional details as to what this role may entail may be requested as well. Please ensure your Discord is on the documentation you send in for contact.
  2. Liberty Democratic State Committee I. Overview The Liberty Democratic State Committee is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Liberty. Its headquarters is located in Algonquin. Over the years, Liberty Democrats have fought to make Liberty a more equitable, progressive, and safe place to live. From fighting to institute a strong economic safety net for workers to include increased union support, increase in minimum wage, etc to fighting for social change such as increased gun control, the Liberty Democratic State Committee remains committed to progressive/liberal values in order to make the citizens of Liberty live a more equitable, fair, and progressive life. The Liberty Democrats being modelled on the New York Democrats are going to begin as one of the driving forces in our roleplay community from day one, but that may not always be the case. 3. Oh, how I'm going to love seeing this in action.
  4. More progress, more development, it's a good day. Good job!
  5. I would prefer to just keep it in all capacity as just like Staten Island. I know it was meant to basically function as New Jersey, but even the devs kinda messed that up by only doing it half-cocked with Alderney State Patrol combined with LCPD cruisers. And having it a separate state just isn't going to really provide us with much real benefits, so I support keeping them just as we already outlined in our consistency policy.
  6. I love it! Gotta get those folks some edumucation. Will be watching this develop.

  17. I cannot describe to you how true this quotation from Winston Churchill is and I must say my own views on this topic are one that has shifted over the years in a variety of ways. Now I could go all philosophical and talk about how Democracy was disliked as a system of government since the days of Ancient Greece, and how most political theorists up to the 18th century regarded it as a suicidal political system that devours itself, but I will go about this another way to keep it simple. To start off with, I was never the strongest democracy fan in terms of direct-democracy. I always disliked the idea of having to in every regard have consensus on an issue, no matter how small or insignificant that issue was before a decision could be made. It caused me frustration to no end in places where it was attempted, and honestly was a huge waste of time for everyone involved. Here is the fun thing about democracy. You can't force full participation in a system of full participation. Sounds stupid right? The very system you in theory use that everyone would need to take part in to function, can't mandate that those very people subjected to it fully participate to ensure the systems operation, and that is one of the core problems of going full-out democracy. If roleplayers could be given perfect responsibility, perfect accountability, and perfect roleplayability, there would be no need for any sort of direct management in the server. There would be no need for Faction Teams or Admin Teams, because everyone would be trusted enough to resolve any issue in a reasonable and professional manner as to resolve conflict. But that world doesn't exist, and thus we require an entity with "authoritarian," tendencies to keep things in line. The question therefor becomes, what is the most acceptable level of authoritarian rule in a roleplay community? Now for years, I have argued against certain institutions such as Faction Management Teams, not on the basis of the team itself, but always on the basis of who is influenced to join the team, and what traditionally always happens to the team. Faction Teams in most communities had this really "authoritarian," tendency to rule as if they were faction leaders, and typically caused a lot of damage because they were never really able to be held accountable for any damage they wrecked on factions as they tended to lose next to nothing while others lost everything. To be clear, I fully believe that there is a body that should be used by the server to uphold a standard of what a faction should be and how it should represent as factions are representations of the community. But it's broad mandate tended to always be an over-reach. I think on this community having the Faction Management Team be called the Faction Support Team even just in name, helps change that dynamic as the team can focus on what it always should've been for which is "supporting," factions rather then "managing." And I also believe that LCRP as a whole enforcing much looser rules in general in regards to factions then the large amounts of rules that allowed the Faction Teams to exercise a ton of power over the community helps keep it to reasonable base that can respond to the community while not being an overreaching authority. Now, let me talk about mindsets and individuals for a moment. A system is only as good as the people in charge of running the system. I don't care what safeguards you put on it, if the wrong person is in charge of it that has no clue how to properly handle their position it will collapse. We have all seen too many faction leaders who were to put it mildly not the right choice for the position, who lead factions into ruins and never wanted to admit they were wrong. There needs to be a STRONG amount of consideration for people who make it to any position of power, because anyone with power has the ability to either be a great asset or a great liability and that starts at the top. The average player on the server just wants to log in, enjoy their time, and log out without a care in the world for other things. But the more serious players know that a lot of the background work in the server from the management to scripting is what gives that average player the freedom to log in and out without issue, and without those competent and responsible people behind the scenes they would be unduly burdened and no longer have any fun. And you can't allow this process to be left to a popularity contest which is what democracy really comes down to. And even if we could implement some kind of democratic system for things like admins and such, how long would terms last? Would recall elections be a thing? What happens if during their reign, they put their friends into certain positions that has a very negative effect on the server, even if you removed the person who appointed them do you also remove the friends which may actually cause more damage then what there is already? There are far too many variables and questions that attempting to do that kind of system will do, and will take away from the importance of those positions. In short, although this wouldn't at all be my real life position as that's a bit different, but in a controlled environment which a modern roleplay community must be to work (controlled as in economics, development, factions, etc), the best form of government for it is a benevolent dictatorship. Basically a dictatorship, that as LCRP is, takes advice from the community and consults with everyone, but ultimately the decisions are within the appropriate teams. Fair practices should be established to ensure people may comment, give opinions, or express their disapproval with certain aspects, but ultimately in order to maintain stability it must remain a rather hierarchical leadership structure from the owner down to the average player. This isn't an excuse to ban opinions you dislike, or refuse to allow people to voice their opinions, as those should always be allowed and endorsed. But it does simply mean, this community has an identity that it must uphold, and it must have the individuals in line with upholding the vision of the community in order to maintain stability and sustainability. Democracy is chaotic even in countries considered to be democratic in real life, and that kind of chaos simply just does not bode well in a roleplay community. No matter how much we may want it too.
  18. God of Insomnia, huh? Wonder how you got that title...but welcome!
  19. I'll list them in bullet points; New setting. I've always wanted to roleplay a Liberty City map, and it's finally becoming a reality after always being on the west coast. Respectful staff/management. I've been around for a decade of roleplay, and this is one of the communities that has some of the most respectful staff I have come into contact with and I hold deep respect for that. Active development. Pretty simple, but we have fourteen developers. Never have I seen a development team on a server have that, as it's usually difficult to get even a few good ones that stick. Unique concepts. New environment, new concepts for roleplay. This kinda goes with the new setting, but this also extends to some of the OOC mentalities that are changing as well as the IC thus I give it a category on it's own. Active leadership. I've seen many bosses, not many leaders. I can proudly say that this community is lead by people with a leadership mentality, and not simply ones who want to command people around and treat them like they are worthless. I hold deep respect for that. Those are a few of the reasons off the top of my head, but it's all what I truly think. Appreciate @papa ore and @Biography for putting their hard work into this community to even get it this far, and I have faith they can push it through to the finish line.
